California School Bus Certification Practice Test

Reducing speed and using low beam headlights is the appropriate course of action when visibility is severely reduced due to fog. Fog can significantly limit the driver's ability to see other vehicles, road signs, and potential hazards. By reducing speed, the driver allows more time to react to unforeseen obstacles or changes in traffic conditions, which enhances safety for everyone on the road.

Low beam headlights are specifically designed to illuminate the road without causing glare that can further obstruct visibility for both the bus driver and other motorists. High beams, although brighter, can reflect off the fog and create a blinding effect, making it even harder to see. Stopping until the fog clears might not be practical since it could cause traffic issues, especially in a school bus scenario. Therefore, maintaining control and awareness while proceeding cautiously is essential in such conditions.
